Taking advantage of the 1997 refreshing two-week vacation, I participated in the "12 days around Poland " pack tour departing on May 19th. At this time, there were a total of 13 people, including 3 couples who retired and 7 individual participants, and the domestic movement was a small charter bus.
After a long flight departing from Narita Airport, we arrived at the high-rise Marriott Hotel next to Warsaw Central Station.
But unfortunately, we only stay at this lovely hotel for one night, and the next day we set out on a round trip, including Krakow Gdansk, and then back to Warsaw to stay at another hotel.
Due to the lack of direct flights from Tokyo to Warsaw in 1997, we had to finish our early meals that night to heal the tiredness of long flights and recharge for the next long journey.
After a meal, an elderly woman who participated alone suffered from abdominal pain and was forced to take a taxi to the nearest hospital with a tour conductor.
When I returned to the hotel room, I was worried and waited for the woman to return safely, looking through the window of my room overlooking the main street, but I could not know the result that night.
However, I was relieved to see her safe at the dining room at breakfast the next day. According to her, she got sick due to the tiredness of a long flight.
And most of all, what I still can't forget was Poland's generosity, with free medical examinations despite foreign tourist.

１９９７年のリフレッシュ連続２週間休暇を活用して５月１９日出発の「ポーランド一週１２日間」のパック・ツアーに参加した。この時の顔ぶれは定年退職した夫妻３組と個人参加７名の計13名で、国内移動は小型チャーターバスだった。
成田空港を出発して長時間のフライトの末に私たちが到着したのは、ワルシャワ中央駅に隣接する高層のマリオット・ホテルだった。
しかし残念なことに、私たちがこの素敵なホテルで宿泊するのは１泊だけで、翌日はクラクフ・グダニスクを初めとする周遊旅行に出発し、再びワルシャワに戻って宿泊するのは別のホテル。
１９９７年には東京からワルシャワまでの直行便がないこともあって、その夜の私たちは早めの食事を終え、長い空路の疲れを癒やすと共に、次の長旅に備えて充電する必要があった。
とこが、食後に一人参加の初老の女性が腹痛を起こし、ツアー・コンダクターの付き添いで最寄りの病院にタクシーで駆け込むことになった。
ホテルの部屋に戻った私は心配で、大通りが見渡せる自室の窓を窺いながらその女性が無事に戻ってくるのを待っていたが、結局その夜に結果を知ることは出来なかった。
しかし、翌日の朝食時の食堂で彼女の無事な姿を見て安心した。彼女の話によると、長い空路の疲れで体調を崩したとのこと。
そして、何よりも、私が今でも忘れられないことは、外国人観光客にも拘わらず診察費が無料というポーランドの寛大さだった。
