60-year-old Harvard Summer School Diary in Google Translate (17) Build physical strength with meals

2004/07/03 (Sat)

After yesterday's class was finished before 17:00, I was so tired that I spent some time window shopping near the campus until dinner started in the cafeteria, and after having a light meal in the cafeteria, I returned to the karkland house. I was going to take a shower and read a mystery short story I brought from Japan in bed, but I was hit by a strong sleep and eventually changed into my pajamas and fell asleep at around 22:30.

It seemed that I was actually much tired than I expected, and I fell asleep and woke up at 7:30. Probably the result of a combination of tension and lack of sleep.

However, I'm not feeling sick because my daily food selection is good.

Before I came here, I was imagining a stereotypical American meal under the rule that "residents eat three meals in the cafeteria", and I was very worried that I might become obese.

However, after several meals, I was satisfied with the variety of ingredients and freshness. However, the taste is not good, but it can be managed by combining seasonings.

If I prepare my own meals, the menu will always be the same due to time, money, and taste restrictions.

The cafeteria here has a wide variety of ingredients and abundant quantities, as meals are prepared with many dedicated staff and extensive facilities to satisfy the stomachs of students from more than 90 countries gathering from all over the world. Then, depending on the choice of the eater, it can be a wonderful meal.

But unfortunately, few people like me make dietary choices, and most young students eat oily and sweet foods.

The large counter in the cafeteria is lined with a wealth of nutritional sources, including a salad bar with a wide variety of vegetables, grains, legumes and dairy products.

I myself wanted to make great use of these foods to improve my eating habits during my stay at summer school.
