I decided to keep a record of my spending during this summer school in Excel, but when I looked at it now that I had settled down, some fragments of my life became apparent.
(1) June 26: Refrigerator / fan rental fee (including deposit) $ 150
I have already mentioned that I signed a contract with the rental department of HSA (Harvard Student Agency) to rent a small white refrigerator, and it was the black refrigerator with a small range that actually arrived at the dormitory from HSA rental.
However, at that time, I had a contract including the rental of a fan installed near the window (Photo ①).
I can't live in Tokyo in the summer without an air conditioner, but the Kirkland House room wasn't equipped with an air conditioner. Boston is located north of Tokyo so I can live as it is for now, but after mid-July the temperature will rise and I'm likely to need a fan.
(2) June 28: Sandals $ 9.99
The school styles I prepared were short-sleeved cotton shirts, ankle-length cotton pants, walking shoes and cotton socks.
However, looking around the campus, most female students had tank tops or short-sleeved T-shirts and shorts, and male students had short-sleeved T-shirts and shorts.
What was unexpected was that many men and women walked in rubber sandals (Photo 2), and I thought it was too casual, but it looked cool, so I bought sandals as well.
(3) June 29: Honey and 80 tea bags $ 11.11
After experiencing all the meals in the cafeteria, I arrived at the cafeteria about 10 minutes on foot from the dormitory, waited for my turn, finished eating breakfast, and found that it was a hassle to go to the classroom with my feet.
Besides, I want to use my morning time for homework and preparations, so I reconsidered that it would be better to finish breakfast in the dormitory and go straight from the dormitory to the classroom.
So I decided to have honey tea and apples for breakfast in the dormitory and bought a bottle of honey and tea bags. Apples can be taken home from the cafeteria and stored in the refrigerator.
Boil water using a coffee maker (Photo ③) and drink tea with a mug with the logo (Photo ④).

支出記録が語る暮らしの断片

私は今回のサマースクール期間の支出記録をExcelでつけることにしたのだが、一段落した今それを眺めると、幾つか暮らしの断片が浮き彫りになった。
（１）６月２６日：冷蔵庫・扇風機レンタル代金（保証金込）＄１５０
私がＨＳＡ（ハーバード・スチューデント・エージェンシ）のレンタル部門と白の小型冷蔵庫を借りる契約をし、実際にＨＳＡレンタルから寮に届いたのは黒の小型レンジ付冷蔵庫であった事は既に述べた。
ところが、その時私は窓際に設置する扇風機のレンタルを含めて契約していた（写真①）。
夏の東京はエアコン無しでは暮らせないが、カークランドハウスの部屋にはエアコンが設置されていなかった。ボストンは東京より北に位置しているから今のところ私はこのままで暮らせるが、７月中旬以降は気温が上昇して扇風機が必要になりそうだ。
（２）６月２８日：サンダル ＄９．９９
私が準備した通学スタイルは、半袖の綿シャツ、アンクル丈の綿パンツ、そしてウオーキングシューズに綿ソックスであった。
ところが、キャンパス内を見廻すと、女子学生はタンクトップか半袖のＴシャツにショート・パンツ、男子学生は半袖のＴシャツにショート・パンツが大半であった。
予想外だったのは、男女共にゴムサンサンダルで歩く人が多く（写真②）、余りにもカジュアル過ぎると思ったが、涼しそうなので、私もサンダルを買った。
（３）６月２９日：蜂蜜と８０ティーバッグ ＄１１．１１
カフェテリアでの食事を一通り体験して、寮から徒歩１０分近いてカフェテリアに到着し、順番を待って朝食を食べ終え、その足で教室に通うのは慌ただしい事が分かった。
それに、私は朝の時間も活用して宿題や予習に充てたいので、朝食は寮で終えて寮から教室に直行した方が時間を有効に使えると考え直した。
ということで、私は、朝食は寮で蜂蜜紅茶と林檎に決めて、瓶入り蜂蜜と紅茶ティーバッグを買った。林檎はカフェテリアから適当に持ち帰り冷蔵庫に保存すれば良い。
コーヒーメーカー（写真③）を使ってお湯を沸かし、ロゴ入りマグカップ（写真④）で紅茶を飲もう。
