Every Friday afternoon, a "Plenary Lecture Series" was organized in which students from all levels (E to A) of English training programs gathered together to receive a lecture in their specialty from a Harvard professor. By the way, my level is B, which is the second from the bottom.
Aside from the advanced level, even if I listen to a esoteric and specialized lecture by a Harvard professor at my level without any preparation, the speech passes from our right ear to our left ear and leaves nothing behind.
So, a few days before the lecture, we took the step of deepening our understanding by having a group discussion based on the resume of the lecture in the integrated class in the morning.
Then, after listening to the professor's lecture, we submitted "DIRECTED LISTENING" to the instructor.
The "DIRECTED LISTENING" describes three items each of what we understood, what we did not understand well, and what we wanted to know more by taking the lecture.
Now that 18 years have passed, I have forgotten most of the content, but the themes of the lectures I can remember include "Maya culture in Guatemala," "ocean microorganisms," "why we run," and "Copernicus."
Next time, I would like to talk about "The New Politics Higher Education" and "Due Process of Law and Captured Enemy Combatants" that left a strong impression on me.

プロフェッサーのレクチャー（1）Plenary Lecture Series

毎週金曜の午後は、全レベル（EからA）の英語研修プログラムの受講生が一堂に会して、ハーバードの教授から専門分野のレクチャーを受ける「Plenary Lecture Series」が組まれていた。因みに私のレベルは下から２番目のB。
上級レベルは別として、私のレベルでハーバード大学教授の難解で専門的な講義を事前準備もなく聴講しても、スピーチは私達の右の耳から左の耳に通り過ぎて何も残らない。
そこでレクチャーの数日前に、私達は午前のインテグレーテッド・クラスで、レクチャーのレジュメを元にグループディスカッションを行い理解力を深める段階を踏んだ。
そして、教授のレクチャーを聴講した後に、私達はインストラクターに「DIRECTED LISTENING」を提出した。
その「DIRECTED LISTENING」とは、レクチャー受講によって、私達が理解した事、よく理解出来なかった事、もっと知りたかった事を、それぞれ３項目ずつ記載する。
１８年を経た今、殆ど内容は忘れたが、思い出せるレクチャーのテーマに「グアテマラのマヤ文化」「海洋の微生物」「何故私達は走るか」「コペルニクス」等があげられる。
次回では、その中でも私の印象に強く残った『The New Politics Higher Education』と『Due Process of Law and Captured Enemy Combatants』について述べてみたい。
