This afternoon's lecture in the Plenary Lecture series was a speech by a fairly enthusiastic professor looking for books by Nicolaus Copernicus in every corner of the world.
I was drawn to the professor's extraordinary respect and curiosity for Copernicus, and the reason why he was so devoted to Copernicus and wandering around the world in search of his writings. I was in line with the questioners because I wanted to hear from the professor directly.
So far, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the professor's lectures, we have prepared discussions, grasping the main points, and questionnaires based on the regimen in the class before the plenary lecture.
Under such circumstances, I was repeatedly advised by the M instructor, "Kazu's question has a unique perspective, so ask the professor directly."
With "Break the Ice".
After the professor's lecture, when I lined up in the questioner's line, M Instructor looked at me with a happy face.
Then, following me, three students in the same class stood up and lined up in a line of questioners, so the M instructor looked extremely proud.
In previous Plenary Lecture series, our class, which belongs to Level B, the second from the bottom, has simply looked at the admiration of advanced students asking questions in fluent English.
And no one in my class thought we would be in line with the questioners.
We are finally "Break the Ice"!

私達は遂に初めてプロフェッサーに質問したぞ！

今日の午後のプレナリー・レクチャーシリーズの講演は、ニコラス・コペルニクスの書籍を世界の隅々まで探し求めている、かなりマニアックな教授のスピーチであった。
私は、教授のコペルニクスに対する並々ならぬ敬愛の気持ちと好奇心に溢れた表情に引き込まれて、「何故そんなにコペルニクスに傾倒して彼の著作を求めて世界中を飛び歩いているのか」の理由を直接教授から聞きたくて質問者の列に連なった。
これまで、プロフェッサーの講義をより深く理解するために、プレナリー・レクチャーを前にした授業で、私達はレジメをベースにした討議・要点の把握・質問書を作成してきた。
そんな中で、私は幾度かＭインストラクターから「Ｋａｚｕの質問はユニークな視点を持っているから、直接プロフェッサーに質問するように」と進言されていた。
「Ｂｒｅａｋ ｔｈｅ Ｉｃｅ」と。
プロフェッサーのレクチャーの後、私が質問者の列に並ぶと、Ｍインストラクターは私の方を見て嬉しそうな顔をした。
そして、何と私に続いて同じクラスの受講生が３人立ち上がって質問者の列に連なったからMインストラクターはものすごく誇らしい表情になった。
これまでのプレナリー・レクチャーシリーズでは、下から２番目のＢレベルに属する私達のクラスは、流暢な英語で質問を展開する上級者達にただただ感嘆の眼差しを向けるだけだった。
そして、私のクラスの誰も、私達が質問者の列に並ぶとは考えもしなかったのだ。
私達は遂に「Ｂｒｅａｋ ｔｈｅ Ｉｃｅ」！
