Coimbra University, founded in Coimbra, Portugal's third largest city, was first founded in Lisbon in 1290 by King Dinis, but was later relocated to Coimbra in 1308, along with Bologna, Oxford and Paris Universities. It is positioned as one of the old universities.

For me, Coimbra's student district, unlike a prestigious university district in the eastern United States that emits an aura of wealth and competition, was a city that made me want to continue walking forever while enjoying a calm medieval atmosphere.
By the way, I realized that Coimbra became even closer to me when I knew that the "Mondego River" flowing in this city was the location of Amalia Rodriguez's hit song "Portuguese Laundry Woman".

私にとってのコインブラの学生街は、富と競争のオーラを放つアメリカ東部の名門大学街と異なって、落ち着いた中世の雰囲気を味わいながらどこまでも歩き続けたい気持ちにさせる街だった。
ところでこの街を流れる「モンデゴ川」が、アマリア・ロドリゲスのヒット曲「ポルトガルの洗濯女」の場所と知って私にはさらにコインブラが親しい街になった。
