My friend and I, who left Japan for Paris on May 7, 1992, visited the Disneyland Paris, which opened near Paris on April 12 last month. At that time it was called Euro Disney.
Speaking of which, at the time, it was talked about whether French people who were proud of their language and culture and disliked American culture could smoothly accept Disneyland, a symbol of American culture.
And stepping in, I was convinced. France embraced it by adopting colors that were completely different from the original Disneyland colors.
Disneyland Paris wasn't a place to play for us, as we both crazy played at Disneyland in Los Angeles twice in 1977 and 1979.
Shortly after returning home, we learned that Disneyland Paris had fallen into business.
1992年5月7日に日本を発ってパリに向かった友人と私が一番に足を運んだ場所は、前月の4月12日にパリ近郊に開園したディズニーランド・パリだった。あの頃はユーロ・ディズニーと呼ばれていた。
そういえば、当時は、自国の言語と文化を誇りとし、アメリカ文化嫌いのフランス人がアメリカ文化の象徴ともいうべきディズニーランドをスムーズに受け入れるのか、話題になっていた。
そして一歩足を踏み入れて私は納得した。フランスはディズニーランドのオリジナルカラーとは全く異なる色彩を採用することで受け入れたのだ。
1977年と1979年の2度に亘ってロサンゼルスのディズニーランドで夢中になって遊んだ私たちにとって、ディズニーランド・パリは夢中で遊ぶ場所ではななかった。
帰国後しばらくして、私たちはディズニーランド・パリが経営不振に陥った事を知った。
