当時参加していた海外旅行好きを集めた異業種交流の「パスポートの会」で、私は次のＧＷ（４月下旬から５月初旬の連休）に友人とニューオリンズとニューヨークを旅行する予定だと報告した。
私のその報告に対して、その会の三十代半ばの男性リーダが、「ケベックでツアーガイドをしている男性の友人がいる。もし貴方に関心があるなら、現地人しか知らないケベックの案内をその彼から受けてみては」と提案されたのだった。
そして、リーダーは「ケベックの友人との連絡は私に任せて」と云った。
そして私は無謀にもその興味深い提案を、ケベックに関する知識のないまま、受け入れたのだった。
