At Turner Exhibition

I went to see "Turner Exhibition" at the museum in Shinjuku (https://turner2018.com/).
It was a sunny day with a maximum temperature of 29 degrees although it was in mid-May.

However, despite severe weather, there were many enthusiastic audiences at the exhibition hall, most of them were middle-aged and elderly people, and their male ratio seemed high in comparison with other art exhibitions, so I was a little surprised.

Turner is regarded as the master of the landscape painting which is representative of England, but it is not familiar to Japanese people as much as Impressionist painters.

However, Turner has one side as a master who represents watercolor painting.

By the way, there are an increasing number of people learning watercolor painting since the baby - boomer generation in Japan retired from retirement age.

Actually, the watercolor classes at the cultural center operated by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and major newspaper companies are booming in middle-aged and elderly generations.

Also, watercolor classes are active in the lifelong learning program of the local government that I live in.
